The instrumentalization of words by detaching them from their semantic essence has shifted the ground of social communication and triggered a chaotic process termed “entropy of meaning.” This article examines the destructive effects of linguistic degradation on the social contract and individual existence through philological and sociological perspectives.
Semantic Shift and the Evaporation of Truth
From a philological standpoint, language is not merely a communication tool; it is the house of being. As Heidegger stated, the human way of interpreting the world is defined by the limits of language. However, the information pollution of the digital age has hollowed out concepts, turning them into mere “signifiers.” Words with ontological roots, such as conscience, loyalty, justice, and truth, have morphed into labels representing conjectural interests rather than their original essences. This situation destroys the ground of “common meaning” and isolates individuals within a semantic void.
Social Entropy and Chaos
On a sociological level, the only force holding a society together is the consensus on concepts. If the concept of “truth” serves a different pragmatism for everyone, a social contract cannot exist. Semantic chaos erodes the sense of trust while fueling social entropy—disorder. The loss of linguistic depth leads to the shallowing of the intellectual world and, ultimately, to a crisis of social identity.
